Korpi Productions

Jukka Korpi is a Finnish born artworker based in Stockholm, Sweden since 1987. He works very broadly in different fields of arts, mainly in performing arts such as contemporary dance and theatre for children and youth, but nowadays also as a writer.

Since 1990, he has created several choreographies that have premiered mainly in different venues in Stockholm, such as MDT, Dansens Hus, and Kulturhuset Stadsteatern.

He has also worked a lot in theatre, opera, and musicals, with directors such as Ingmar Bergman, Torbjörn Astner, Catherine Parment, Inger Åby, and Timo Nieminen, among others. He has had several collaborations with visual artists Lotte Nilsson-Välimaa, Teemu Mäki, and Margareta Petré, and with composers Sten Sandell, Liselotte Norelius, Akemi Ishijima, Max Wallin, Jean-Francoise Laporte, and Girilal Baars. As a dancer, he has worked with choreographers such as Claire Parsons, Staffan Eek, Lotta Gahrton, and Christina Caprioli, among others. During 2012-2023 he worked as an Artistic Director for the Swedish-Finnish Theatre Institution UusiTeatteri, directing several children’s plays for the theatre.

Jukka Korpis’ debut book as a writer, a bilingual children’s book Månen sover (The Moon is sleeping), was published in spring 2024.  His latest dance production, Fyra åtta (Four eight), premiered in December 2024 at The European Festival of the Night in Korpilombolo, northern Sweden.

AVAILABLE WORKS:

Fyra åtta / Four eight
Jukka Korpis’s latest dance production, premiered at The European Festival of The Night in Korpilombolo in December 2024, is the result of a very long-term solo dance project. The choreographic material is based on 480 pictures collected from newspapers during his journeys in 10 different countries over a period of 10 years.

The choreography pictures all the endless variety and contrasts there are in the world, everywhere and at the same time. The solo is called Four eight, because number 48 is very central in the work, and because he prefers a very neutral title, which doesn’t give a lot of expectations and associations already in advance. He likes to let the dance speak for itself.

Next performances:
Viksjöteatern, Järfälla, 2025-10-18 and Atalante, Gothenburg, 2025-11-07.

Flygande /Flying
A coming piece will premiere on 2025-11-29 at Zebra Dans, Stockholm. It is a solo dance production for a large group of children from the age of 3 years and upwards, inspired by children’s drawings of flying horses. Korpi and the Finnish visual artist Li Taiga will collaborate on it, including choreography and animations created from children’s drawings. More info will be announced soon!
