Jo Strømgren Kompani (JSK) is an acclaimed Norwegian repertory company with large global distribution. Over one hundred shows are performed worldwide every year, both in large national theatres and small alternative venues. The overall touring list covers about fifty countries. JSK’s home stage in Oslo is the Norwegian Opera House in Bjørvika.
The artistic style is a unique mix of dance and theatre, with puppet theatre, film, and live music often added. Another trademark is the extensive use of nonsensical languages and a distinct humoristic touch. JSK also offers performances for young audiences.

The Basement is on one level a delirious tribute to the millions of women throughout history doomed to a fate of early death and oblivion, guilty of nothing else than being women. On another level, it’s a confusing fable about reincarnation. If we wake up as someone else, are
we able to fully represent that person or do we just find ourselves bewildered by weird costumes? While the men’s party continues above, the four women search for logic in their new reality. Or multiple realities.

Strømgren’s choreography is remarkably eloquent with emotionally charged movement in a fast-paced performance with a serious message.
