A brand new dance festival in Sweden celebrating the possibility for us to meet again and exchange. Dans i Blekinge and Regionteatern Blekinge Kronoberg present BRÅDJUPA, Blekinge Dance Festival. It is a brand new contemporary dance festival in the Nordic Countries, showcasing new work as well as presenting the most experienced international artists in contemporary dance today.

“We want to create a meeting place – a festival for art and ideas, a platform where contemporary dance can be experienced, discussed, and enjoyed, in an intimate setting, in a well-secluded harbor in the very south of Sweden.”
Åsa Edgren, Acting CEO Regionteatern Blekinge Kronoberg and Rebecca Yates, President Dans i Blekinge.

During four intensive days, Lokstallarna in Karlshamn will be overloaded with dance! There will be dance classes, morning swims, workshops, artist talks, labs, film screenings, jams, panel talks, residence showings, guest performances and late-night meets.

BRÅDJUPA is a festival where both finished works and works in progress will be presented. The theme for BRÅDJUPA is Same sea, temporary islands, water as a metaphor for death and islands for our temporary existence. The theme speaks concretely about our geography; about the sea belt and the archipelago in Blekinge. Same sea also stands for the origin of everything, that which separates us and binds us together. Same sea is reminiscent of the constant movement, the eternal and the very core of existence. In contrast, temporary islands stand as a metaphor for the individual and temporary, the finite existence of life.

The word BRÅDJUPA means getting to know someone in depth very quickly. The word is taken from the book Blekinge’s 200 words for love, created by the performing arts group Pinamackorna in dialogue with Blekinge residents.

BRÅDJUPA takes place 31 August-4 September 2022.
Tickets will be released on www.bradjupa.se.
